HOPE Scholarship

The HOPE Scholarship pays a percentage amount of the standard tuition charges at an eligible post-secondary institution.

Eligible High School Students in GA must meet the following 3 requirements:

  • 1- Graduate from an Eligible High School with a minimum of an unweighted 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale (as calculated by GSFC) in order to meet the academic requirements as a HOPE Scholar for the HOPE Scholarship at the First-Tier.
  • 2- Be enrolled as a degree-seeking student at a public or private HOPE eligible college or university in Georgia.
  • 3- Meet academic rigor requirements. Students must complete 4 academically-rigorous courses, as identified on the ACADEMIC RIGOR LIST**, in addition to meeting the GPA requirements.

According to Georgia Dept. of Education, each grade earned for attempted coursework in English, mathematics, science, social studies and foreign language during the student’s 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade years used to satisfy a Core curriculum graduation requirement:

Earned grades in core classes are equated to a grade on the 4.0 scale as follows:

  • grade of “A” equals 4.0
  • “B” equals 3.0
  • “C” equals 2.0
  • “F” equals 0

Zell Miller Scholarship

Zell Miller Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

  • Student must meet all the eligibility requirements for the HOPE Scholarship
  • Student must graduate from an GA eligible high school with a grade point average of at least 3.70 (as calculated by the Georgia Student Finance Commission)
  • Student must have met one of the following criteria (tests need to be take prior to graduation)

– an SAT score of at least 1200 combined critical reading score and math score on a single administration of the SAT (no super scoring) —    OR   —

– an ACT composite score of 26 or higher —    OR   —

– graduate from an eligible high schools as the valedictorian or salutatorian (only 1 per school)

  • Submitting Test Scores for Zell Miller Scholarship:  Students with a College Board SAT score report may upload a copy of the score report to GSFC. Students with an ACT score may request ACT electronically send their score report to GSFC. Student records are updated with received test score reports within 3-5 business days. Student Document Upload (gafutures.org)

Is Zell Miller weighted? — Zell Miller Scholarship pays full standard tuition for students who earned a 3.70 GPA out of 4.0 (unweighted) for all academic high school classes and earned at least a 1200 in one sitting on the Math and Verbal section of the SAT or at least a 26 on the ACT.

Can you get both HOPE and Zell Miller scholarships?
— Students may receive HOPE or Zell Miller, but NOT both at the same time.
